Finding ways to support and grow our community is important to everyone at DHC. Recently we've been involved with a number of especially interesting and inspiring organizations. We'd like to share some of these stories about how our team is involved. We hope you enjoy.
Our Operations Manager Stephanie Bast lost her mom to breast cancer, which is part of why she passionately supports the Susan G. Komen for the Cure ® Eastern Washington Affiliate. She has volunteered with the organization since early 2006. If you are not familiar with the foundation, for more than 25 years it has been the global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs.
After serving as the Volunteer Chair for the Eastern Washington Affiliate board of directors for two years, Steph was named President Elect in January. As President, she will help oversee much of the organization's efforts over the year. She has already appeared on KHQ's "Bring the Coffee" segment and dropped the puck at "Pink Ice Night" with the Spokane Chiefs!
Race for the Cure®, the organization's largest fundraiser of the year, is just around the corner. This five kilometer race is expected to attract more than 6,000 participants to downtown Spokane on April 19, 2009. To volunteer or register for the race, click here.
At Desautel Hege Communications, we believe in lifelong learning. Additionally, we are passionate about mentoring, teaching and growing local talent to support the greater community. This is one of the many reasons that Michelle Hege and Sarah Schwering continue to be involved with Gonzaga University.
Desautel Hege Communications has been proud to support The Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at Gonzaga University since its inception in 2000. This program, based on the Jesuit educational ideals of ethical leadership and commitment to the common good, takes GU students through a four-year undergraduate concentration preparing them for the creation of new ventures that make a positive difference in society.
Partner Michelle Hege served as the inaugural Chair of the Program's Advisory Board and soon another DHC team member will fill those shoes. Account Director Sarah Schwering, who holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Gonzaga, will take the position of Chair in one year. This post has significant meaning as Sarah is a Hogan Program alumnus from the first graduating class in 2004, as well as a winner of the Business Plan Competition (co-sponsored by the Hogan Program) in 2004. Sarah also serves on the Hogan Program?s New Venture Lab Advisory Board. DHC is proud to support this great program and looks forward to providing even more leadership in the future!
