A Conversation with Hayley

The DHC team continues to grow.

Last month we hired our newest team member, Hayley Graham. We couldn’t be more excited for you to meet her, so the other day we sat down with Hayley to ask her a few questions about life before DHC and how she got here.

DHC: Let’s cover the basics real quick—rattle ‘em off.

Hayley:  Well I’m a Spokane native and recent grad of Gonzaga University where I just received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing. And a Public Relations Minor for good measure. I was hired as Account Coordinator in late April and just joined the team May 29.

DHC: So what drew you to Marketing and Public Relations while you were at GU?

Hayley: Well, I was drawn to Marketing because I’ve always been interested in business, but I also wanted to do something where I could let my creative juices flow. Marketing lets me focus on the bottom line and all those other business related things, but it also lets me add a bit of creativity to my work.

I also decided to tack on a minor in Public Relations because I enjoy the interaction that comes from communications. I really enjoy getting to meet and learn from so many different kinds of people, and since PR definitely focuses on building relationships, I figured it would be a perfect field for me.

DHC: Can you tell everyone about your experience that made you our top candidate while you were interviewing?

Hayley: One word: Internships! I interned at both Nordstrom and Spokane Teachers Credit Union, which were both very rewarding experiences. At Nordstrom, I was a Retail Sales and Management Intern. I worked in the kids department so I had the opportunity to work with people of all ages, from kids all the way to grandparents. That definitely taught me how to alter my message for different audiences which is a very important part of communications.

Most recently, I was the Community Relations and Business Development Intern at STCU. I can’t even name all of the fun things I got to work on there, but my favorite part was coordinating a city-wide program for Administrative Professionals at local schools.

DHC: So one of our favorite Jim-isms is, “Work is important. Life is more important.” What keeps you busy when you’re not in the office helping clients?

Hayley: Let’s see… I love traveling (anywhere warm!), playing golf (although it’s been far too long!), being outdoors, shopping, reading, spending time with my friends and family, and my guilty pleasure… watching reality TV! Oh, and this is going to sound silly, but I really enjoy exercising!

DHC: What do you enjoy most about your new job so far?

That’s tough because there are so many things I enjoy about DHC, but I’d have to say one thing that has stood out to me is the warm and friendly work environment. It’s really obvious that teamwork is important here. Before I even started working here, I got a card in the mail that was signed by everyone welcoming me to the team. That warm welcome definitely made me look forward to starting just that much sooner!

One other thing I really enjoy about working at an agency is that because we work with so many different clients, I get to learn about industries that I had no prior knowledge of. I mean, I never thought I would find healthcare this interesting!

DHC: Last question(s): we’re going to pull a James Lipton/ Actor’s Studio and go through the questionnaire.
